Diane is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She also holds two professional certificates including one from OSU in Human Services Management and one from the American Academy of Bereavement as a National Bereavement Group Facilitator. Diane currently works as a counselor at the private practice of Dr. John C. Jorden, Psychologist, in Ashland. Although Diane works with adults and children in all different areas of mental health, she specializes in grief and loss issues. Prior to this position she worked for more than 15 years as the Bereavement Coordinator at Hospice of North Central Ohio.
Diane’s “Good Grief” Series
This series is for adult women or men who have experienced the death of a loved one in the last year or two. The series will be both educational and supportive. While each session will be inclusive, in order to receive the greatest benefit, the instructor encourages participation in as many sessions as possible.
Session 1: What’s grief got to do with it?
We will begin by defining grief and then taking a look at : grief impacts us in every area of our life including Physically, Emotionally, Mentally and Spiritually.
Session 2: What do I need to “DO” to help me feel better?
We will identify coping skills that enable us to begin to heal our grief.
Session 3: What is the difference between “being selfish” and “self-care”?
We will discuss the definition of self-care and talk about ways we promote self-care when we are grieving.
Session 4: What are some of the similarities/differences in grieving the death of a spouse, sibling, parent or friend?
We will take a look at how different relationships impact the way we experience our grief.
Session 5: What does “resiliency” mean and how does that impact our grief journey?
We will define “resilency” and talk about how that assists us with grief and other stressors throughout our lives.
Session 6: Now that I understand I am grieving; how do I make it through the holidays?
We will discuss some tried and true practical suggestions of getting through the holidays while grieving.
Event Cost: Each session will cost $20.00; however, if you plan on attending all of the sessions, the cost is reduced to $100.00. Please register online. Payment can be made at that time or paid in cash or check at the door.
