Life Illumined Yoga - Yoga & Reiki
Laura was introduced to yoga in 2012 as a means to improve flexibility in her life after starting a rigorous fitness routine. During the process, she noticed her flexibility improved (as expected) but other positive aspects in her life started to emerge. She...
discovered that yoga offered more than just flexibility, and over time practicing yoga had many more benefits. It helped manage stress, improve sleep, shorten recovery time with muscle soreness and fitness related injuries, reduced the occurrence of injuries, and helped improve performance with running, weight lifting and Crossfit. In fact, yoga was such a critical part of her marathon training plan that she credits it for not hitting “the wall” and improving post-marathon recovery. After the encouragement of family and fellow gym members, Laura decided to take the leap and go to yoga school at Blue Osa Retreat and Spa, in Costa Rica, to become a certified yoga teacher. Yoga school had opened her eyes to many different aspects of yoga, especially meditation and pranayama. Yoga and meditation became a lifestyle for her beyond just the physical practice. It became a practice that had connected body, mind and spirit and was a paradigm shift in her world. She is certified as a 200 hour RYT through Yoga Alliance and is continuing education through Yoga on High in Columbus, OH where she has trained under notable yoga teachers and authors such as orthopedic surgeon Ray Long, MD and Jason Crandell. Her specializations include meditation, pranayama, and EMBER trauma-sensitive yoga. She aspires to teach yoga by developing an inclusive and diverse yoga community so people of various walks of life can experience the benefits of yoga in order to improve their own overall health and well-being.
