We celebrate the power of SEL in helping children develop important life skills. As part of an initiative by SEL4US, we had the pleasure of speaking with Braxton, a student at Mansfield City Schools.
Braxton is a delightful and spirited little boy who participated in Mind Body Align at School. He shared how Bugsy, one of our beloved story characters, made an impact on his learning journey.
When asked if he remembered Bugsy, Braxton’s face lit up.
“Yes, I remember Bugsy. He helped me to learn breathing and to take deep breaths.”
Braxton explained how these simple breathing techniques helped him manage his emotions.
“Deep breaths helped me not to be mad. They also helped me calm down when I was upset.”
One of his favorite lessons? Shark breath!
“I liked learning about shark breaths the most because I like sharks and thought that was cool to breathe like a shark.”
Stories like Braxton’s remind us that even small lessons can make a big difference in helping children navigate their feelings. This week and every week, let’s continue to support social emotional learning in our schools and communities!
Just like Braxton discovered, a deep breath can be a powerful tool for finding calm and focus. Want to explore more ways to bring breathing tools into your day? Download our Trauma-Sensitive Breath Deck free for the month of March!
