This lesson is a great way to teach your students about breathing intentionally as a form of self-regulation. We’ve also included a complementary activity sheet to engage the students in discussion with their families when they return home.

Directions: Introduce your class to “Flower Breath.” Have a brief discussion on the possible situations we may encounter throughout the day when we would benefit from a mindful pause such as feeling overwhelmed, anxious, too excited, or even angry or sad.

Let your students know that breathing intentionally and deeply is a powerful tool they always carry with them. Lead your students through the guided breathing exercise below. Follow the exercise with the Flower Breath activity sheet. Encourage your students to talk to their families and caregivers about what they learned!
